Flying Penguin Farm was created from a love of growing and a desire to share organically grown flowers, fruits and vegetables with the people in my community. This small-scale farm found its home in Monee, IL in 2021 and is committed to following sustainable practices on its land, while growing without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. I believe that small-scale, organic farming methods are better for the earth and produce products of the highest quality that are healthier for us all.
First plantings in the spring of 2021
Garlic beds in the fall of 2021
One spring, when I was a young girl, my mother asked me to help her plant some impatiens around a small bush in our front yard. There was something about being outside in the springtime and getting my hands in the dirt that felt truly magical. I don’t know if it was the feel of the sun and the fresh air after a long, cold winter, or if it was the smell of the earth, so raw and so grounding, but there was something about it I instinctively loved.
Watching those flowers grow throughout the spring and summer was such a delight. To see them transform from these tiny little plants dotted around the dirt, to full blooms that burst forth with color was pure joy. Knowing that I had put those baby flowers in the earth with my own hands made me feel connected to something larger than myself, something I still feel to this day whenever I’m planting.
Many years have passed since those first plantings. Life has taken me on a number of journeys, but building the farm, returning to the earth, is like coming home to me. I am blessed to be able to follow my passion, to become a grower and be surrounded by such beauty and deliciousness. I am so grateful for these new beginnings, and am excited for you to join me.
